Traumatic Episode

A traumatic episode usually occurs when you least expect it. These traumatic episodes can be low energy (e.g. fall on the same level) or high energy (e.g motor vehicle accident or fall from a height). The higher the energy of the trauma the greater the injury. In my practice, I deal with all forms of trauma. I have 18 years of experience dealing with orthopaedic trauma. At Cape Gate Mediclinic Orthopaedic Trauma is dealt with in highly specialised units and with multi-disciplinary specialist interventions. The aim of management for all trauma patients is to return the patient to the same function as before the injury in as short a time as possible. This results in the least time off work or school and early return to sports.

Complications Of Trauma

  1. Bone and joint deformities
  2. Chronic bone and joint pain
  3. Infections known as osteomyelitis
  4. Loss of function of a limb or joint
  5. Joint stiffness
  6. Joint instability
  7. Loss of muscle and tendon function
  8. Non-union or mal-union or fractures

In my practice complications of orthopaedic trauma is thoroughly investigated and diagnosed. The treatment of these conditions takes the patients expectations into consideration and is frequently done with the participation of an occupational therapist and a physiotherapist. The goal is to return the patient to his or her premorbid function.
